‘New Mexico True’ Brand To Boost Select Businesses

STATE News:

SANTA FE  The New Mexico Tourism Department announced an initiative that will allow select New Mexico businesses to leverage the hugely popular New Mexico True brand to build their product’s recognition and amplify their existing marketing message.

The New Mexico True Certified program brings national attention to the quality, care and craftsmanship behind products that are uniquely New Mexican, while providing opportunity for a business of any size to integrate the New Mexico True Certified mark on their packaging, fulfillment and marketing materials.

The free program is open to licensed New Mexico businesses whose products fall into at least one of the following categories:
  • 100% Made in New Mexico – to be used for consumer packaged goods made or manufactured in New Mexico such as wine, lotion or salsa
  • 100% Born & Raised in New Mexico – to be used for animals and livestock that produce food and fiber products such as dairy products, meat products or wool from livestock
  • 100% Grown in New Mexico – to be used for plants or non-meat agricultural products such as herbs, vegetables and fruits

“The New Mexico True brand is doing great things for our state, providing opportunities to diversify our economy and create jobs in small towns and large cities around New Mexico,” Gov. Susana Martinez said. “But even more opportunities exist to draw more attention to the people, places and now products that make New Mexico such a great place to visit, work and live.”

The New Mexico True Certified program will be promoted by the New Mexico Tourism Department through advertising, social media and public relations efforts.

In addition to being able to use the New Mexico True Certified mark, products accepted into the program will be considered for inclusion in upcoming issues of New Mexico Magazine, future episodes of New Mexico True Television and other promotional opportunities as they arise.

“We know that consumers are more likely to seek out products from a specific location after they’ve been exposed to those products on vacation,” Tourism Department Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Latham said. “New Mexico True Certified allows the state to further capitalize on our expanding marketing efforts by providing a promise of authenticity that creates a competitive advantage for businesses and products accepted into the program.”

Flagship Food Group, which relocated the manufacturing operations for its 505 Southwestern products from California to Albuquerque in 2015, has seen extraordinary success in connecting with an established New Mexico brand. “Partnering with New Mexico True, Flagship Food Group sees tremendous benefit from being associated with a brand that’s generating millions of advertising impressions, as well as reinforcing the authenticity our 505 Southwestern products offer,” Rob Holland, CEO, Flagship Food Group said.

In addition to Flagship Foods, Labatt Food Service, which provides Where Food Comes From, Inc. Source Verified® beef products to several New Mexico restaurants, intends to offer the “100 percent Born & Raised in New Mexico” label to its clients. The label will be featured prominently on the restaurant menus, next to the items that feature New Mexico beef.
