LEGISLATURE News:
Senior Day at the Legislature is just around the corner, and your voice is essential in advocating for the needs of older adults. This is your opportunity to influence decisions that impact the health, dignity, and well-being of aging New Mexicans.
Tips for Speaking to Your Legislators:
- Be Concise: Keep your points clear and brief. Highlight personal stories or experiences that resonate with the priority you’re advocating for.
- Be Specific: Mention the priority by name (e.g., “I encourage you to support the Kiki Saavedra Senior Dignity Fund.”) to reinforce its importance.
- Be Polite and Positive: Maintain a respectful tone and express gratitude for their time and service.
- Leave Information: Provide a brief handout or summary of your main points, if possible.
Find Your Legislators: Know who represents you. To find your state representative and senator, visit NMLegis.gov and follow these steps. New elected officials are not up on the site yet, so make sure to check back often in case your representative or senator has changed.
- Go to the “Find My Legislator” section.
- Enter your address or ZIP code.
- View the results to see your district’s representative and senator with their contact information.
