Luján Votes For Government Funding Bill With Key New Mexico Priorities

U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján

CONGRESSIONAL News:

WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District released the following statement today after voting in support of the omnibus appropriations bill that funds the government through Fiscal Year 2016.

“This legislation is far from perfect, however it includes key priorities that I have been fighting for to strengthen New Mexico and prevent a government shutdown. The bill takes steps to undo part of the sequester cuts that hurt New Mexico’s economy, shut down Head Start centers, and have negatively impacted our labs and those who do business with them. Under this bill, Los Alamos National Lab receives robust support which includes important resources for environmental cleanup.

“By ensuring the continuation of the Land and Water Conservation Fund, the bill will help protect New Mexico’s precious land and water resources that are a part of our heritage and sustain jobs in our communities. It also contains provisions that will spur renewable energy and help create jobs in a sector that is a growing part of New Mexico’s economy. And it extends the Payment In Lieu of Taxes (PILT) program that provides critical funding to rural communities for schools, roads, and first responders.”
