The Los Alamos Hilltoppers Lacrosse team traveled Saturday to the Balloon Park Soccer fields to play the Duke City Scorpions to determine the state Lacrosse champions.
The Toppers are a pure team, which means that the team members are all from Los Alamos High School. The Scorpions are a composite team of the best players from all the high schools in Albuquerque and that gives them a huge advantage over a pure team.
The first time these two teams met was early in the season in White Rock. The Toppers took the Scorpions into overtime and lost 9-8. The second time the Scorpions won by a decisive amount and again in the championship game won by a decisive amount.
The Toppers had a very successful season, making it all the way to the championship game and came away as runner up.
