Los Alamos Art Teachers Honored At Conference

Three Los Alamos Public Schools art teachers, both past and present, were honored Nov. 12 at the New Mexico Art Education Association annual conference.
 
Mary Grace of Los Alamos High School received the President’s Award of Distinction. Renee Mitsunaga of Chamisa Elementary School and present LAPS Teacher of the Year, received the Elementary Art Educator of the Year award, and Thelma Hahn, retired art teacher from LAPS and former president of the New Mexico Art Education Association, received the Retired Art Educator of the Year award.
 
All honorees were touched by the support of the New Mexico art education community. Also in attendance to support their colleagues, Stephanie Rittner, Pinon Elementary art teacher and former president of the New Mexico Art Education Association; Daisy Nichols; Mountain Elementary School art teacher, Kristi Carr; Barranca Mesa Elementary School art teacher, Britt Williams; Aspen Elementary School art teacher; Suzanne Lynne, principal of Chamisa Elementary and Megan Lee, teacher from Chamisa Elementary School.
 
Two Los Alamos art teachers also are in the running to join the 2017-2018 board of the New Mexico Art Education Association. Britt Williams of Aspen Elementary is a candidate for elementary school art representative and Mary Grace of Los Alamos High School is in the running to be the high school representative.
