Wouldn’t it be fun to be able to talk to someone about the latest book you’re reading? The Los Alamos County Library System is coordinating just such an event with its Spring Book Club. The library is taking the opportunity to catch up on Anne Hillerman mysteries, Spider Woman’s Daughter and Rock With Wings, so that when Hillerman comes out with her newest book they will be ready to roll.

The libraries have gotten several copies of the first two mysteries, in all kinds of formats, including large print, audiobook and downloadable audiobook. With little more than a month to go before the first book discussion at Mesa Public Library (MPL) at 6:30 p.m., March 9.

The library is hoping everybody has time to read Spider Woman’s Daughter. If that’s not quite possible, attend to the White Rock book discussion a week later. The library will discuss Rock With Wings April 13 at MPL and April 20 at the White Rock Branch. There is no sign-up necessary – just drop. There will be door prizes (books, of course).

Hillerman has continued the series that her famous father, Tony Hillerman, began with the publication of The Blessing Way in 1970. Those mysteries featured the crime-solving duo of Leaphorn and Chee, and the other members of the Navajo Tribal Police were mere background material. Now Officer Bernadette Manuelito is the central character.

Hillerman will be at the library in Los Alamos May 25 to share her newest book Song of the Lion. For more information, call 505.662.8253, visit either branch to pick up a bookmark with the dates and times, or visit the library’s website at and click on the events calendar.
