Letter to the Editor: Kiwanis Says Thanks

Dear Editor,

Despite the damper of dry weather and fireworks show cancellation, the 2012 Fourth of July Celebration at Overlook Park was a great success.

After a few months of dangerous drought, the big rain was even welcome.

Though we canceled the festivities earlier than planned, the fun picnic setting, yummy food, wonderful music, and very cool skydiving display by the Habanero Skydiving Club made for a great afternoon and evening.

We missed the fireworks, but we still celebrate living in the United States of America – the very best country in the world to be from!

The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos would like to thank everyone who worked to make the Independence Day Celebration a success.

Sticking with us through these past years has always been Los Alamos National Bank. Del Norte Credit Union provided consistent support as did ReMax, LATA and 999, LLC.

Thank you to Frank’s Supply for providing generator power to the Ton-O-Fun bouncy toys and to the Hilltop House Hotel for rooms for the Ton-O-Fun crew.

The Community Winds got us into the spirit with patriotic music while Russ Gordon and the Nomads ensured we had music to wiggle our bodies.

Of course, the Kiwanis couldn’t hold this event without all the support from Los Alamos County staff.

Thanks to the Los Alamos County Fire Department and Los Alamos County Police Department for keeping us all safe and to David Archuleta and the gang from the County Traffic Division for smooth parking.

The Overlook Park team led by Leo Maestas, took care of our trash and took care of us.

Atomic City Transit allowed many to ride the bus making for easy arrival and departure – especially after that big downpour!

Finally, thank you to all the dedicated Kiwanians for your time and energy. You continually demonstrate your dedication to the people of Los Alamos and the community of Northern New Mexico.

Make your plans now to be in Los Alamos next year. The Fourth of July Celebration promises to be filled with the best America has to offer.

We hope for a fantastic fireworks display. But we know that’s not why we celebrate the 4th of July. We live in America. The land of the free and the home of the brave!

Sincerely,

Steve Boerigter
