Lensic Announces Second Half Of Its ‘Lensic Presents’ Series … Eight New Shows In 2022

SANTA FE —The Lensic announces eight new performances in 2022 in its Lensic Presents series of original programming.

The new events round out the Lensic Presents 2021‒22 Season, which launched in September.

“After many months without live performances, this Lensic Presents season is especially exciting for us—and the energy we’re feeling from audiences has been incredible,” Lensic Executive Director Joel Alberts said. “We started our new Lensic Presents season with a sold-out concert by trumpeter Chris Botti and haven’t slowed down since.”

Tickets to the new events go on sale 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, (presale for Lensic members at the $100 membership level and above started Thursday). Tickets may be purchased online at Lensic.org, by phone at 505.988.1234, and in person at the Lensic Community Box Office, 211 West San Francisco St. in Santa Fe. 

TANGO ARGENTINA 

7:30 p.m., $25‒$49 – Jan. 20, 2022

Tango Argentina captures the sensuality and spirit of tango with 12 of Argentina’s greatest tango dancers and musicians. Bursting with passion from the streets of Buenos Aires, this thrilling evening shows the genre’s revolution and confirms why this iconic dance continues to captivate our imagination.

STORM LARGE

7:30 p.m., $35‒$57 – Feb. 14, 2022 

Lensic audiences already have a love affair with Storm Large, so what could be better than spending Valentine’s Day with this sensational singer? Combining cabaret style with rock attitude, Storm Large concerts are powerful, delightful, and, it’s safe to say, a little racy.

INTERNATIONAL GUITAR NIGHT

7:30 p.m., $25‒$39 – Feb. 23, 2022 

International Guitar Night returns to The Lensic with four of the world’s foremost guitarists performing a diverse and virtuosic evening of solos, duets, and quartets. The tour includes Lulo Reinhardt, Germany’s Latin Swing master; contemporary classical guitarist Stephanie Jones from Australia; and two-hand “tapper” Alexander Misko from Russia, along with the brilliant Italian jazz guitarist and vocalist Eleanora “Lele” Strino.

CELTIC FIDDLER EILEEN IVERS

7:30 p.m., $25‒$49 – Feb. 26, 2022 

She’s nine-time All-Ireland Fiddle Champion, the original musical star of Riverdance, and a founding member of Cherish the Ladies. She’s a Grammy winner, Emmy nominee, and has been described as “the future of the Celtic fiddle” by the Washington Post. Eileen Ivers’ resume is as unforgettable as the time you’ll have gearing up for St. Patrick’s Day with her at the Lensic. Don’t miss the party of the year! 

BLACK VIOLIN

7:30 p.m., $42‒$59 – March 17 & 18 

Virtuoso violinists Kev Marcus and Wil B are Black Violin — a dynamic duo of high-energy, classically trained musicians renowned for their ability to meld highbrow and pop culture into a single genre-busting act. Their electrifying style mines the synergy among classical, jazz, blues, R&B, and hip-hop, creating a distinctive sound they describe as “classical boom.” The duo focuses on overcoming stereotypes, and they encourage people of all ages, races, and economic backgrounds to join together to break down cultural barriers. Black Violin will play two shows, over two nights, at The Lensic!

DRUM TAO 2022 

7:30 p.m., $25‒$58 – March 31 

The world-acclaimed percussion performers return to The Lensic with their newest high-energy showcase of the ancient art of Japanese drumming. Combining highly physical, large-scale drumming with contemporary costumes, precise choreography, and innovative visuals, the performers of TAO create an unforgettable experience of movement and sound.


BALLET FOLKLÓRICO DE MÉXICO DE AMALIA HERNÁNDEZ 

7:30 p.m., $39‒$79 – April 7, 2022 

Founded in 1952 by dancer and choreographer Amalia Hernández, Ballet Folklórico de México brings together the festive music, swirling dance, and vibrant costumes of Mexican folklore from pre-Colombian civilizations through the modern era. The company, composed of 76 talented folk dancers, has developed choreography for 40 ballets and makes its permanent home at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, one of Mexico City’s most historic venues.  

IGUDESMAN AND JOO: PLAY IT AGAIN

7:30 p.m., $35‒$59 – May 5, 2022

Violinist Aleksey Igudesman and pianist Hyung-Ki Joo are the inventive comic duo whose hilarious mix of music, pop culture, and pure zaniness has won them fans of all ages. Highly trained musicians, their inspired silliness can start with Rachmaninoff and find its way through martial arts, movie classics, rock, hip hop, and even stepdancing! Igudesman and Joo have performed with some of the world’s most famous orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the L.A. Philharmonic, and the London Philharmonic.
