It was a big week for Colette Bibeault. A very big week! The LAHS senior broke three school records: her own 300 m hurdle record (44.01 sec) at the Cleveland Storm Relays April 11, and then the 100 m hurdle (14.91 sec) and pole vault (12′ 6″) records at the Marilyn Sepulveda Meet of Champions April 14.

Colette’s 300 m hurdle time is more than 2 seconds faster than her nearest Class 4A competitor. Her 100 m hurdle time is the fastest in the state across all classes, and her pole vault is the 36th highest high school vault this season in the entire country!

But those performances weren’t the only exceptional ones by the Hilltopper Track & Field athletes last week. The Girls achieved 18 qualifying marks for the State Championship, two of them new qualifications. Of particular note at the Cleveland Storm Relays were Sarah Martis posting the #7 all-time LAHS discus throw, the 4×200 m relay team of Chloe Coffey, Jenna Montoya, Allie Holland, and Evangelina Gutierrez posting the #6 all-time LAHS mark (1:44.83), and the 4×400 m relay team of Jayden Burns, Jenna Montoya, Chloe Coffey, and Colette Bibeault posting the fastest time in the state this season (4:06.09).

Earlier in the week at the APS Invitational, Dani Trellue ran 15.53 in the 100 m hurdles – the #5 all-time LAHS mark. Then at the Meet of Champions she won the triple jump with a #4 all-time LAHS leap of 36′ 9-3/4″, the best in the state this season, across all classes. Also at Meet of Champions, Allie Holland placed 2nd in the long jump with a #5 all-time LAHS leap of 18′ 1-1/2″.

The Boys team also had a remarkable run of performances in the past week. At the Cleveland Storm Relays, Jayden Dudley put the shot 50′ 6″ to achieve the #8 all-time LAHS mark. JJ Diaz achieved a state qualifying time in the 300 m hurdles. All five track relays posted season-best times. The 4×100 m relay team of Akim Leija-Sanchez, Jacob Hilderbrand, Jens Wald-Hopkins, and Esteban Wright posted the #2 all-time LAHS mark of 42.57 seconds. The 4×200 m relay team of Akim Leija-Sanchez, Jacob Hilderbrand, Rylee Gramer, and Jens Wald-Hopkins also posted the #2 all-time LAHS mark, this one 1:28.99. The 4×400 m relay team of Esteban Wright, Jacob Hilderbrand, Akim Leija-Sanchez, and Jens Wald-Hopkins) posted the #10 all-time LAHS mark of 3:26.51.  Finally, the 4×800 m relay team of Andy Enriquez, Mikey Bane, Eddie Gartz, and Benjamin Sanchez ran a state qualifying time of 8:30.17 – the #5 all-time LAHS mark.

The Boys continued their winning ways at the Marilyn Sepulveda Meet of Champions. Andy Enriquez and Gus Ovaska both qualified for the State Championship in the 800m, going under the significant 2 minute barrier for the first time this season, in 1:58.74 and 1:59.02, respectively. Aiden Manzanares cleared 13′ 6″ in the pole vault, achieving a personal best and tying the #8 all-time LAHS mark. Benjamin Sanchez placed 3rd in the 3200 m in a time of 9:56.93.

Next up the Hilltoppers compete at Sandia Prep Saturday, April 19, followed by the Harper Invite at Albuquerque Academy Friday and Saturday, April 25-26.
