Gubernatorial candidate Deb Haaland
From the campaign of Deb Haaland:
ALBUQUERQUE — Speaker of the New Mexico House of Representatives Javier Martinez announced his endorsement of Deb Haaland in the race for governor.
“New Mexico is rebuilding the village it takes to raise a child with every dollar we invest and every policy we pass. We’ve made life better and more affordable for working families across the state by lowering costs, improving access to healthcare and housing, and launching a first-of-its-kind universal childcare program,” Speaker Martínez said. “Right now, as federal overreach threatens to undermine this progress, we need a leader who will stand up and fight back while advancing big, bold solutions for New Mexico’s working families. Deb Haaland is the only candidate with the necessary executive and legislative experience to keep our state moving forward at this pivotal moment and I am proud to endorse her for governor.”
Speaker Martínez has served New Mexico in the state House of Representatives for more than a decade and has led the chamber as Speaker since 2023. During his tenure, he led the effort to amend the state constitution to make transformative investments in early learning and make universal childcare a reality. He has worked to improve child wellbeing, expand access to healthcare, put more money back in the pockets of working families, and protect New Mexicans’ civil rights. Martínez’s endorsement underscores Haaland’s strong support within the Legislature and reflects her ability to effectively partner with lawmakers to advance shared priorities.
“Speaker Martínez is a champion for working families. His steadfast leadership and record of delivering for New Mexico’s families has put our state in a strong position to serve our people, not big corporations,” Haaland said. “I am honored to earn his endorsement as I run to serve the people of our state. I will partner with the legislature to ensure people can afford their rent and groceries in the same month, can see a doctor when they’re sick, can live in safe communities, and have a quality public education.”
Throughout her campaign, Haaland has traveled to all 33 counties in New Mexico, meeting directly with families, workers, and community leaders to hear their concerns and share her vision for a safer, stronger, and healthier state. As a single mother, she cleaned her child’s preschool to afford the cost of an early childhood education.
Haaland believes that no matter their background, every child in New Mexico deserves a fair shot, the chance to dream big, and the ability to reach their full potential. Haaland has released an education plan that will work to help families support their children and her roadmap to public safety to steer young New Mexicans away from violent crime.
A testament to Haaland’s experience and vision to lead New Mexico, Haaland has earned more than 120 endorsements from local and national leaders including: Senator Ben Ray Lujan, Rep. Melanie Stansbury, Rep. Gabe Vasquez, Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez, Former NM House Speaker Brian Egolf, and NM House Majority Leader Reena Szczepanski.
