Report about Wednesday’s storm from Bandelier National Monument via Facebook:
The storm that came through this area Wednesday evening brought flooding that temporarily closed N.M. 501 and sections of N.M. 4.
The new ashy-black mud along Frijoles Creek shows how high the water was running here.
The trails are open, and lots of people are visiting, but the three temporary bridges along the trail to Alcove House and the second bridge on the Falls Trail washed away – time for wet feet!
This storm was mostly in the upper parts of the canyons – it barely rained in the Visitor Center area.
Have fun here but be careful during the monsoons – consider visiting the canyon in the mornings this time of year, always be alert for rising water, and never try to cross a stream that is rising.
