Fearless Genius: Rare Photos Of Steve Jobs & Insights From Silicon Valley 1985-2000 … The Lensic July 19

LENSIC News:

SANTA FE — Documentary photographer Doug Menuez was granted unprecedented access to Steve Jobs and other Silicon Valley innovators in the 1980s and ’90s.

In Fearless Genius, July 19 at The Lensic, Menuez shares rare, behind-the-scenes photos and reflects on an incredibly creative era that changed the world as we know it.

Menuez’s images reveal the human side of the brilliant minds that fueled the tech revolution. His work captures key moments in the careers of Steve Jobs (NeXT, Apple) and dozens of other tech leaders, including Bill Gates (Microsoft), Bill Joy (Sun Microsystems), and John Warnock (Adobe).

With unheard-of access to these famously insular companies and people, Menuez was witness to a revolution. He describes that experience and relates the technological and ethical challenges of the time to the those of today, as we’re experiencing science-fiction-like advances in 3-D printing, genomics, quantum computing, and more.

How can we foster a culture of innovation? Why is diversity so important? What is true leadership in the face of impossible odds? These and other questions are explored in Menuez’s fascinating, inspirational presentation, which is as much about achieving dreams as it is about technology.

Menuez will be introduced by Ivy Ross, vice president at Google and head of Project Aura, the team exploring the possibilities of Google Glass and other wearable tech.
After the presentation, he will sign copies of his book Fearless Genius: The Digital Revolution in Silicon Valley, 1985-2000 (Atria Books 2014), in the Lensic lobby.

“Doug’s images are extraordinary, deeply evocative of an unpicturesque virtual circus, as he has an artist’s ability to suggest the drama and passion beneath the office-park banality.”  —Kurt Andersen, author, host of Studio 360

“His amazing archive of images comprise one of the richest records of [a] seminal moment in American and technological history.” —Jakob Schiller, WIRED Magazine
