UNM-Los Alamos Community Education is offering a unique opportunity for all community members who have an interest in learning more about the universe.
Beginning Aug. 23 and running through November, “Explore Your Universe: Modern Astrophysics for Everyone” will meet 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
In this class, students will work in small teams on current, unsolved research problems in astrophysics, guided by mentors who work as astrophysicists at LANL and span a wide range of expertise. Class facilitator Dr. Nicole Lloyd-Ronning is an astrophysicist studying gamma-rays at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Topics for this class will be guided by students’ individual interests, and might include anything from investigating the life of a star to the nature of dark matter. Students will learn about current outstanding questions in astrophysics, while possibly contributing to solving some of these exciting problems.
This is an open forum for those who like learning new things and working with others to solve problems. “Explore Your Universe: Modern Astrophysics for Everyone” is open to anyone who is interested, regardless of his/her math and science background. The tuition for the course is $25. To register visit here.
