Los Alamos High School senior Lillian Petersen has won multiple awards at Intel Science and Engineering competitions. At a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Los Alamos, she described how she analyzes large data sets to investigate climate, agriculture, malnutrition and poverty. She explained her research on creating a real-time monitoring system to predict crop yields in every African nation several months before harvest and how this tool can predict areas of malnutrition. Budget analysts in New Mexico expect the Legislature will have an incredible $907 million of so-called “new money” when they convene in January. A vast majority of that money comes from the boom in oil and gas production in the Permian Basin.

LAHS 2019 Homecoming Week Activities Sept. 16-21

This week Los Alamos will don green and gold to celebrate Homecoming 2019.

“It’s that time of the year when everyone is a Topper,” said Jonathan Lathrop, co-sponsor of the Los Alamos High School Student Council. “Our Student Leadership team has been very busy planning a lot of activities to celebrate this tradition.”
