On the job Monday at Fire Station 3 in White Rock is Carl Russell, DMin, MA, LPCC a volunteer from the New Mexico Crisis Support Team (NMCST). Russell offered to facilitate a critical incident debriefing for local first responders involved in the recent tragedies in Los Alamos and White Rock. The NMCST is comprised of 15 volunteer mental health professionals, clergy and peer support personnel who have received special training to intervene with individuals who have experienced a critical incident or traumatic event. Scenes From Hour Of Coding At Aspen School
Los Alamos National Laboratory Director Thom Mason volunteers during the Hour of Code this morning at Aspen Eementary School as part of International Computer Science Education Week. Director Mason supervises third graders as they navigate a spherical robot through a maze, using programming they developed this week during Hour of Code. Each year, Hour of Code teaches K-12 students coding basics and broadens participation in the field of computer science. Skolnik Donates Global Health 101 To Local Libraries

Author Richard Skolnik of White Rock recently donated copies of his college textbook Global Health 101, 4th edition, to the Mesa Public Library and the Los Alamos High School Library.
This new edition of Skolnik’s book, the most widely used global health textbook worldwide, was published in October of this year.
‘The health of anyone, anywhere, is the health of everyone, everywhere,’ Skolnik said, adding that he hopes, therefore, that Los Alamos County residents will find value in the book.

The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) will close for winter break Saturday, Dec. 21 through Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020.
There will be no classes or activities and buildings will be closed.
The UNM-LA campus, at 4000 University Dr., will reopen Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020. The UNM-LA Library will re-open Jan. 21 for student and community use.

Starting Monday, Dec. 16, parking at Sullivan Field will be limited due to the start of construction of the Sullivan Field House.
Students are encouraged to utilize school buses, public transport or carpool with friends. Access to parking will be limited due to construction during the next nine months.

SFCC News:New Report Finds 13.8 Percent Of Working Adults Suffered Food Insecurity In 2016-2018 In New Mexico

More than 25 percent of all children in New Mexico lived in households that couldn’t always afford enough food from 2016-2018, according to a new report by Hunger Free America, based on an analysis of federal data.
That means 121,719 children in the state lived in households that did not always know where their next meal was coming from during the three-year time period.
The total number of food insecure individuals in New Mexico from 2016-2018 was 374,105 (18.3 percent of the state population), making it the most food insecure state in the country.
