LAPS Issues Invitation To Crisis Support For LAPS Parents And Community Members

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools would like to invite parents and community members to hear a short presentation and have an opportunity to share and discuss how we can support each other and our children during this time of grief and loss at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16 in the Chamisa Elementary School Gymnasium.

In times of unexpected, untimely tragedy, it is normal to feel shocked and afraid, to want to lash out, to try to regain a sense of control, and to search for ways to keep our children safe. As our community reels from a series of recent losses, LAPS would like to offer parents and community members a safe and supportive space to share what we are experiencing and to receive information about the available supports.

This community discussion will be facilitated by the Postvention Team of Northern New Mexico, a collaboration between Gerard’s House, the Sky Center, and area community providers.

LAPS leaders and counseling staff will be present as well as community members and organizations who are able to offer support and share available resources. In such frightening times, it is important that we come together as a community and find strength in supporting one another.

Please direct questions to LAPS Healthy Schools Initiative Director Kristine Coblentz at k.coblentz@laschools.net or 505.663.2263. Although an RSVP is not required, for planning purposes, please indicate an interest in attending to the email above or on the LAPS Facebook invite. This event is geared toward adults. Limited childcare for school-aged children will be available by reservation at the email above.
