Daily Postcard: This Mississippi Kite spent considerable time Thursday evening perched near the top of a tall tree on Richard Court in White Rock. According to All About Birds, these raptors are between the size of a crow and a goose and most commonly found in the Southeast and some prairies in Texas and Oklahoma. They can also be found along parts of the Rio Grande in New Mexico. However, they rarely make their way as far north as Los Alamos and this may have been only the second recorded sighting of one in Los Alamos County. Photo by Richard Skolnik
