County: Community Q&A For Small Retail LEDA Initiative
Los Alamos County will host a question-and-answer session, 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, in Council Chambers at 1000 Central Ave., to introduce and discuss its proposed Small Retail Local Economic Development Act (LEDA) initiative.

Community Suicide Prevention Course To Debut In Los Alamos Beginning In August
In response to New Mexico’s persistently high suicide rate, among the top five in the nation, Santa Fe Community College (SFCC) has developed a new suicide prevention course: ABC – Ask, Be Present, Connect.
The program debuts this August in Los Alamos and is free and open to the public.
“The ABC program goes beyond crisis intervention,” said Curriculum Creator Marvel Harrison, PhD. “It includes upstream prevention by building a culture where it’s safe to ask someone if they’re thinking about suicide. Talking about suicide saves lives.”

Open House: Draft Concepts For North Mesa Recreation Plan

Los Alamos County Community Services invites the public to an open house from 5:30–7 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, at Fuller Lodge, to review and provide input on draft concepts for the North Mesa Recreation Plan.
The plan proposes renovations to the 26-acre North Mesa Recreation Area—also known as “FEMA-ville”—which features sports fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, and more. A firefighting helicopter with a bucket full of water heads back to the Laguna Wildfire today after refueling at the Los Alamos Airport. Acting Los Alamos County Fire Chief Wendy Servey explained that the helicopter is staying at the Los Alamos Airport to provide air support for the Laguna Wildfire. Two agenda items previously scheduled for the Tuesday, July 15 Los Alamos County Council work session have been removed due to scheduling conflicts and will be placed on an agenda soon.
