The Los Alamos Cooperative Market (Co+op) turns five this spring, and community members (Co+op members and non-members alike) are invited to a birthday celebration Saturday, March
5.
“Who doesn’t love a good party?” Interim General Manager Rebekah Valentine said. “Five years is a huge milestone, made even more significant when looking back over the struggles we’ve had during the last year or so.”
To celebrate, the deli will make birthday cake, of course, and will also serve up short-order burgers and hot bar favorites. Demos and samples will be available throughout the store, and to wash it all down, Bathtub Row Brewery will be present with a selection of local brews.
Customers also will receive reusable insulated grocery bags at the store that day, compliments of a fellow co-op, Del Norte Credit Union. March 3-4, in advance of the celebration, DNCU also will distribute $5 deli lunch coupons in its lobby at 1000 Trinity Dr.
Members who make a purchase on March 5 will receive a button that reads “I own a grocery store!” and save 15 percent on regularly priced items. Non-members can receive that same big discount by purchasing an annual membership for only $30. All customers can enjoy sales throughout the store, all day long.
“I am looking forward to celebrating this milestone with our community,” LACM Board President Tracy McFarland said. “The founding board started working on getting a store here 10 years ago, so this is really a celebration of many peoples’ hard work and perseverance to get our store open. Our market exists through the generosity of member loans, and this community effort shows the true spirit of Los Alamos.”

- noon to 2 p.m. ― Chair massages available from Greg Barthell
- noon to 6 p.m. ― Short-order burgers available from the deli
- noon to 6 p.m. ― Bathtub Row Brewery on site with local brews
- Throughout the day ― Live music and board members bagging groceries
