Bandelier & Valles Caldera Reiterate Fire Restriction Details

BANDELIER News:

Following the Stage 1 Fire Restriction implemented Monday, May 24 by the Santa Fe National Forest, Bandelier Acting Superintendent Dennis Milligan and Valles Caldera Superintendent Jorge Silva-Banuelos would like to remind visitors that Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in place year-round at Bandelier and Valles Caldera.

“with the unusually low moisture levels, current dry conditions and high winds, we want the public to remain vigilant/be aware while enjoying Bandelier or Valles Caldera,” Milligan said

At Bandelier, campfires are allowed in the grates provided in the campgrounds and well as camp stoves fueled by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels with on/off switches allowed when used in areas that are at least three feet free of flammable materials, both overhead and on the ground.

Smoking is allowed only in areas that are clear of vegetation by at least 3 feet, which includes the parking lot picnic area in the Frijoles Canyon and the Juniper Campground.

Fireworks are never allowed.

Fire restrictions in New Mexico can be found at Southwest Area Fire Restrictions Dashboard (Public) (arcgis.com) and fire updates are posted on the New Mexico Fire Information website at www.nmfireinfo.com.
