Atomic City Children’s Theater Announces Changes For 2017-18 Season

ACCT News:

Atomic City Children’s Theater (ACCT), Los Alamos Public Schools’ award winning after-school musical theater program announced their events and shows for the 2017-18 season.

ACCT Summer Workshops

ACCT’s fun-filled season begins in June with the return of their popular ACCT Summer Workshops. The Summer Workshops will be held June 26-30 from 9-11 a.m., in the Topper Theater at the high school.

ACCT Director Daren Savage said, “This is a great way for students to start their musical theater summer break. We will use material from our 2017-18 season for the workshops.” Registration is now open for the ACCT Summer Workshops. Registration packets can be downloaded from our website.

Changes for the 2017-18 Season

“There will be several changes for our upcoming season,” Savage noted. “Due to the construction in Smith Auditorium, it won’t be possible for us to offer a show in November. We couldn’t commit to starting a show without a venue to perform in.”

“We have decided to combine our elementary school and middle school casts for our February show. We are planning to present Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach Jr.”

Auditions for Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach Jr. are tentatively scheduled for November 18th with rehearsals beginning November 28 th . Public performances of Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach Jr. are scheduled for February 16 & 17, 2018 at Smith Auditorium.

Leadership Changes

Another big change will be a new co-director. ACCT’s Musical Director Kelsey Nelson has decided to take a break from ACCT. Annemarie Brown, 3rd grade teacher at Barranca Mesa Elementary School has bravely offered to step in as Savage’s co-director.

Funding Changes

ACCT’s funding model will also change for next year with ACCT becoming a self-funded performing group rather than rely on the FAEA Arts Grant for their funding.

ACCT will be organizing several fundraising events to fund next year’s shows and will host at least one fundraising event every month to raise the money needed to present the quality musicals Los Alamos families have come to love.

ACCT will have information at this weekend’s VolunteerFest; part of the Los Alamos ChamberFest for Los Alamos residents who are interested in supporting ACCT students. Please plan to stop by the VolunteerFest table to learn how you can help.

The 2017-18 season marks ACCT’s 10th year serving Los Alamos area musical theater students.
