What could be better than a Sweetheart of an Afternoon Recital by some of the finest young pianists in Los Alamos?
Winners of the recent Santa Fe Sonata Contest will be presented in recital at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 14, at Crossroads Church.
The concert is Free to the public, showcasing three of the First Prize Winners of the Sonata Contest as well as other young pianists in the Los Alamos community.
Among student performers are First Prize Sonata Contest Winners Julia Chen, Sruthi Garimella, and Yunseo Kim. The solo performances will feature Classic Era sonatas and sonatinas of Beethoven, Haydn, Kuhlau, and Mozart as well as works by J.S. Bach and living composers Dennis Alexander and Mary Leaf. The young artists range in age from five years to twelve years.
However, many of the performers are already “seasoned” young artists, having been awarded prizes in numerous piano competitions throughout New Mexico. Other performers include Bernjamin Guo, age 5; Jack Ammerman, age 10; Pippa Fung, Age 10; Philip Ionkov, age 11; Jennie Gao, age 11; Sophia Feldman, age 11; Fayrouz Mourad, age 11; and Lily Shevitz, age 12.
Sunday Musicales are regular presentations by the Los Alamos Music Teachers Association (LAMTA), presented in fall and spring terms for the public’s enjoyment and as performance opportunities for students dedicated to private study and advancement on their instrument. The concert is presented without intermission, and will last just under one hour.
LAMTA is the local area affiliate of the State (PMTNM) and National (MTNA) professional music organizations for Independent Music Teachers and College Music Faculty.
All performers in the Sunday Musicale are students of teachers who are professional members of all three organizations and who also hold professional music graduate degrees, ranging from the baccalaureate through the doctorate. Students for this recital represent Los Alamos teachers Wendy Gee, Janna Warren, and Madeline Williamson. Although Musicales are always Free to the public, donations of any amount are gladly accepted at the Reception which follows in the Lobby.
Any donations received go to supporting ongoing enrichment activities conducted on behalf of students by the LAMTA. LAMTA is a non-profit 501-(c-3) organization with the mission of furthering the art of music teaching and programs that encourage and support music study and appreciation for students and their community.
