Zia Credit Union News:

  • Zia Credit Union’s Best Day Ever is part of a collective of events taking place across the country to  generate 100,000 acts of kindness. This is the first-time community banks and credit unions have come together for a nationwide event, demonstrating their local impact and the scale of their network.

Zia Credit Union, in partnership with Kasasa, hosted Los Alamos’ Best Day Ever Friday, Nov 3. Kasasa, which offers free rewards checking accounts exclusively at community banks and credit unions, joined with community financial institutions across the country to perform 100,000 acts of kindness for the Best Day Ever on Nov. 3.

Zia Credit Union celebrated locally in Los Alamos, Española and Santa Fe. In addition to treating their members to a dose of extra kindness on that day, Zia staff members poped up at local establishments to perform random acts of kindness for strangers. They handed out cards with positive messages on them and a surprise inside. The cards also encouraged the recipient to pay it forward and do their own random acts of kindness.

For their ultimate random act of kindness, Zia Credit Union and Kasasa surprised one member and her family of 8 on the Best Day Ever with a voucher for a weekend trip to Albuquerque, including lodging, meals out, and a trip to the zoo for their youngest son’s 5th birthday.

Local events like Zia’s are part of a nationwide effort to showcase the significance of community banks and credit unions. These events demonstrate how such institutions are integral to the communities they serve and emphasize their role in preserving the vital human connection that is progressively disappearing from financial institutions. They also underscore the scale of the Kasasa network of community banks and credit unions, which cobined represents the fourth largest branch banking network in the country.

“We are excited to be a part of the Best Day Ever to demonstrate how we make a difference in our communities,” said Dwayne Herrera, President/CEO of Zia Credit Union. “We believe in the power of community and the importance of human connection in banking. Through this event, we hope to inspire organizations and individuals to join us in making a meaningful impact in other people’s lives. I invite everyone to look for Zia Credit Union staff out and about in the community doing random acts of kindness on November 3rd.”

“Community Financial Institutions may lack the multi-billion-dollar marketing budgets of giants like Bank of America and Chase,” said Gabe Krajicek, CEO of Kasasa. “But they do have incredibly generous hearts and commitment to serve their communities. Showing up for this event to tell people they matter demonstrates the incalculable ways they show up in their communities every single day. Their personal service paired with Kasasa’s world-class products beat the megabank offerings, help individuals prosper, and make local economies stronger.”
