Zia Credit Union Invites Community To Chile Roasting Days

Zia Credit Union News:

          • Los Alamos Scheduled For Wednesday, Sept. 20

Zia Credit Union is celebrating all things local, and what’s more quintessential New Mexico in the fall than roasting green chile? As part of its “Think Like a Local” campaign, Zia CU is partnering with local businesses throughout the fall to highlight all things New Mexico. First up is a series of Chile Roasting Days.

Espanola-based Santa Cruz Farms and Greenhouses will be roasting its fresh chiles from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at each of Zia’s three locations as follows:

  • Los Alamos Branch, 1001 Central Ave. – Wednesday, Sept. 20
  • Santa Fe Branch, 111 N. St. Francis Dr. – Wednesday, Sept. 27
  • Espanola Branch, 707 Riverside Dr. – Wednesday, Oct. 4

Santa Cruz Farms & Greenhouses is offering a special price on its local chile of $65 per bushel (15 lbs. fresh/10 lbs. when roasted). On top of that, Zia CU members will receive an additional coupon for $10 off a bushel, just for banking New Mexico style at Zia. For those who don’t need a full bushel, smaller bags will be available for $10 each, or a special price of 6 for $50.

“Our farm in Espanola has been in my uncle’s family for 400 years, and I’ve been farming it with him for 10 years,” said Nery Martinez of Santa Cruz Farms. “We grow Sandia, Big Jim, and Santa Cruz Native varieties. The chile is 100% locally grown in Espanola. The flavor is unique, and we harvest it hours before roasting it for the ultimate freshness.”

All community members are invited to come to Zia Credit Union’s branches to get their fresh roasted chile. While Zia members will receive an additional $10 off of a bushel, the special prices on bushels and smaller bags will be offered to everyone.
