Zia Credit Union News:

On May 22, Zia Credit Union held its 69th Annual Meeting and the Zia Credit Union Education Foundation recognized scholarship recipients.

Since 2001, the Zia Education Foundation has given $459,750.00 in scholarships in three categories: academic, leadership, and special achievement. This year $22,000 was awarded in scholarships to graduating high school seniors.

In Academics:

From Calvert Academy, Svetlana Nina Backhaus. From Española Valley High School, Angelina Aguilar. From Los Alamos High School, Aleah Cordova. From Mesa Vista High School, Estrella Alire. From Peñasco High School, Matias Diego Vigil. From Pojoaque Valley High School, Elizabeth Lujan-Towels, Emma Kitchens, and Joaquin Caraveo.

In Leadership:

From Los Alamos High School, Kaya Loy and Audrey See. From McCurdy Charter School, Aliyah Aragon. From Mesa Vista High School, Marcos Matinez. From the New Mexico School of the Arts, Nathaniel Romero. From Pojoaque Valley High School, Sierra Atencio, Araya Vigil, Cienna Muller, Joshua Montoya, Lauryn Branch, and Marisa Martinez.

In Special Achievements:

Congratulations to this year’s scholarship recipients, and to the entire class of 2024!

Funded by an annual golf tournament, Chip In 4 Kids, the Zia Education Foundation supports scholarships to help young adults achieve their academic goals. It also supports the UNM Children’s Hospital Connected Academy, which helps kids keep up with their academics while they are receiving treatment.

Next year, applications for scholarships will be available in January 2025, and the deadline will be March 14, 2025. Applications will be available at ziacu.org, at all Zia Credit Union branches, and with high school counselors.
