Youth Mountain Bike Programs Open In Los Alamos

NICA Discovery News:

Got a kid who loves riding bikes—or is ready to try trails for the first time? NICA Discovery youth mountain biking programs are back in Los Alamos this spring, offering a fun, confidence-building way for kids ages 7–11 to get outside, learn new skills, and ride with friends.

The “New Friends” program is ideal for children who can balance and pedal a bike but are new to off-road riding. Through games and group activities, riders develop foundational bike-handling skills, physical stamina, and confidence in a supportive, team-oriented environment. “New Friends” sessions run 3-4:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, April 14-30, at Mountain Elementary.

For riders ready to take the next step, “FUNdamentals” builds on those basics, focusing on developing core trail skills, cooperation, and the stamina needed for longer rides. The FUNdamentals session will run 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 5-22, meeting at the northeast corner of Urban Park.

Both programs are part of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) and are led by trained volunteers who are passionate about helping kids grow on and off the bike. If you have questions, please email Kyle Dickman at kyledickman@gmail.com.
