YMCA Hosts Firecracker 5K Family Run July 4

The annual Los Alamos YMCA’s Firecracker 5K Family Fun Run is open to all ages who want to walk, run or jog in this festive event.

Prizes will go to the top male and female finishers in Youth (under 14), Adult (14-59), Adult 60+ catagories, and one prize will go to the fastest dog jogger. Prizes have been donated by Ojo Caliente, Connie’s Massage, CB FOX, Fusion Multisports and Pet Pangaea. The best costumed participant will win Bagels-for-a-Year from Ruby K’s.

All participants will get the annual Fun Run T-shirt and are eligible to win random door prizes from local businesses such as The Co+op Market, Homerun Pizza, El Parasol, Viola’s Place, the Reel Deal Theater, CB FOX, PEEC, Papa Murphy’s Pizza, Ruby K’s and other generous donors.

The 5K race route starts in the YMCA parking lot, turns North on 15th to Canyon Road, west on Canyon to the Aquatic Center, continues west on Canyon to Diamond Drive, U-turns at the crosswalk and returns to the Y along same route.

Early registration, prior to July 4, is at the Y, 1450 Iris St., and will save $5 per participant. The cost for early registrants is $30 for adults, $20 for Y members, and $10 for youth (under 14). Day of the Race Registration will cost an additional $5.

Race day check-in is 7:15-7:45 a.m. July 4 and the race starts at 8 a.m.

Volunteers are needed to help with set-up and take-down, registration check-in, traffic control and to help award prizes, and will be given race t-shirts as a thank-you. Sign up at the Y front desk.
