WRPC News:

In April of this year, White Rock Presbyterian Church (WRPC) officially “came out” as publicly affirming and unhesitatingly welcoming of LGBTQIA+ persons. As one of their efforts to not only welcome and affirm this community but also to be an active ally, WRPC sponsored a “parking lot sale” in August, to raise awareness and funds for Self Help’s “Techo Fund” – a fund designated especially for housing local LGBTQIA+ youth, up to age 24.

Wednesday, Sept. 28, Pastor Deb Church had the honor of presenting a check from WRPC for nearly $3,000 (100 percent of the proceeds from the sale) to Self Help Executive Director Diane Smogor. This money, through the Techo Fund, will directly support home-related expenses for queer youth, such as:

  • Emergency hotel vouchers to bridge gaps between housing situations for short periods;
  • Rent/deposit assistance to help individuals stay safely housed or find new housing; and
  • Other needs critical to accessing housing, such as vital document replacement or car repairs for individuals living in their vehicles.

To apply for assistance from the Techo Fund, contact Self Help via their webform, call 505.662.4666 and press “2” or text 505.500.4030.
