No one is too small to make a positive difference in the world! The 2 1/2–5-year-olds in the Wiggle Worms class at Worms and Wildflowers Nature School in White Rock have been collecting books for young children in Africa since last spring.

Sharon Allen, local coordinator for the African Library Project and grandparent of two class members, talked to the young students about kids who have no access to books and the children eagerly agreed to bring in books they no longer needed. By October, enough books had been collected for a 1,112 book library to send to The Green School in rural Uganda.

Families recently came together to help the students sort and pack the books as well as donated funds toward shipping costs. Extra special thanks go to the school director’s son, Jasper, who sold homemade blond brownies to supplement shipping costs because he saw a need and did something about it! What a heart!

Denise Matthews, the school’s director said, “This project is more than a book drive; it’s also a way to teach our class about the value of giving to others in need and reusing materials rather than throwing them away. We are so happy to be able to share our love of reading and learning with another school! We have been collecting books since last spring, and it’s very exciting to finally send them off. It’s been a rewarding experience for all involved. Together we can do great things!”
