Wolf Creek Ski Area Hosts Second Fun Race

PAGOSA SPRINGS, Colo. — Wolf Creek Ski Area hosted its second Fun Race for the season Sunday, Jan. 8. The modified grand slalom course was held on Lower Charisma with a beautifully groomed base of fresh snow. 

The event drew a nice turnout of 52 racers traveling from as far away as Chile, Florida and Arkansas.

The overall winner for the day was Corbin Horrocks, of South Fork, Colo., with the fastest time of 27.68 seconds. Dan Hultgren of St. Petersburg, Fla., came in a very close second with a time of 27.89. Third place went Nolan Kay, of Pagosa Springs, with his equally impressive time of 28.12 seconds.

The womens race also had an outstanding showing with most of the race times coming in under 45 seconds. Lydia Mundd of Pagosa Springs came in first place to finish at 35.08 seconds. Allison Barrett, of Lakewood, Colo., took second with her time of 39.00 seconds and third place went to Tatyana Strickland of Waco, Texas with a race time of 39.39.

Wolf Creek will be hosting its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Race Sunday, Jan. 15. The racecourse will be a modified grand slalom course with two lanes on the lower Charisma run. It is free with the purchase of a lift ticket. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., at the intersection of Turnpike and Charisma, and the course will be open 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Medals will be awarded to the three fastest racers in each age and gender category.
