White Rock United Methodist Church News:
The Reverend Sean Smith and his family arrived June 22 in White Rock from Odessa, Texas to serve the congregation at White Rock United Methodist Church. Â
Coming during a pandemic has provided some challenges. First is being quarantined for 14 days. Second is not being able to meet congregation members in person. However, Rev. Smith will be presenting his sermons via Youtube until it is safe to meet in person.Â
Rev. Smith grew up in Georgetown, Texas. He is an avid hiker and outdoors person and he has already fallen in love with the landscape. His wife Courtney grew up in New Mexico and they met at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas.Â
During his tenure at the United Methodist Church in Odessa, Courtney taught middle school science. Here in Los Alamos she will be an elementary GATE teacher. They have two daughters, Jane, 8, and Lucy 6.Â
In their short time in White Rock the family said they have enjoyed walks and hikes of the area and are excited to explore more in the coming weeks and months. They look forward to becoming fully involved in the community.
Rev. Smith said he believes there are creative solutions to staying safe and serving during the COVID-19 pandemic. When the pandemic is over, and gatherings are allowed, the congregation will join together at the church on Meadow Lane in White Rock.Â
