COMMUNITY News:

Are you looking for a way to help out your community during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Do you need volunteer hours, a college or professional resume builder, or letters of recommendation?

Do you have some free time during the day between classes or before/after work? Or could you work from somewhere besides your kitchen table?

Online school is putting a strain on parents who cannot work from home. The White Rock Learning Center at the La Vista Church of the Nazarene, 15 Grand Canyon, is a place for children whose parents work outside the home to complete their online schooling in a safe, supervised environment.

This service is offered free of charge to parents who have been referred by community organizations, so we are entirely staffed by volunteers.

Note: We are not accepting new students at this time.

Can you help us?

We need volunteers for any length of time between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Volunteer for as little as one hour, one day a week, or as much as 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. You can work, you can play with the kids, or you can help them with their school work.

Volunteers must be able to pass a criminal background check, complete a short child safety training course, and must sign a COVID waiver.

Social distancing is observed, and all students and volunteers wear a face covering in the building at all times.

Interested? Contact learningcenter@lavistanaz.org or 505.500.4313.
