WHEEED! Celebrates 2nd Birthday Today!

From Wheeed! LLC:

People often wonder and ask about the success of Wheeed! LLC. As we approach our 2nd Birthday, Wheeed! would like to share some of our business information with you. We are sharing these numbers because we are proud of them, but additionally all cannabis dispensary sales are publicly filed and published every month by the CCD (Cannabis Control Division). We would like to provide some context to these numbers. Our cannabis sales can be found here.

We would like to invite anyone (over 21) to our second birthday bash 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 20! Our first two years have been rather remarkable. First and foremost we would like to say a huge “Thank you!” to all of our supporters, we would not be where we are without you.

If you are not familiar with Wheeed! our shop is located at 555 Oppenheimer Drive, Suite 100. We are a tiny 420 sq. ft. retail cannabis dispensary. We knew this was destiny when we first set foot in the space. This is the same space where we held our pop-up shop as part of the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce Retail Accelerator Program.

Wheeed! works hard to use our resources in meaningful ways. We donate 1% of our gross proceeds to worthy non-profits, most of these in Los Alamos. In 2023 We donated $10,866 to nonprofits including: Lemonade Living, Los Alamos Arts Council, LA Cares Food Pantry, Delancey Street Foundation, PEEC Pajarito Environmental Education Center, Los Alamos Friends of the Shelter, the Parkinson’s Foundation, NORML (National Organization for the Reformation of Marijuana Laws) and the Last Prisoner Project.

Access to cannabis as a medicine is the most important aspect of our business. Over 75% of our staff are medical cannabis card holders, all of our staff have very personal experiences with cannabis that has positively impacted their lives. At the end of 2023 Wheeed! employs 8 people – 4 full time and 4 part time employees. It is important to us that people that work here can also live here. We work hard to ensure that our employees earn a living wage based upon Los Alamos. All but 1 of our employees lives in Los Alamos. Wheeed! paid $203,959.73 gross wages in 2023. Wheeed! also paid approximately $39,000 in payroll taxes.

We choose to support local farms. Wheeed! supported 23 local cannabis farms and businesses in New Mexico. Most of these businesses are “micro” businesses, small farms with 200 cannabis plants or less, typically consisting of just 2 people. We favor organic outdoor sun grown cannabis.

Wheeed! was a graduating participant of the first Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce business accelerator. Now, as a successful local business we continue to support the Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business Accelerator Program.

Wheeed! Events: In June 2023, Wheeed! was privileged to be chosen by High Times Magazine as one of only 7 companies state-wide, to be an official distributor for the Inaugural 2023 High Times New Mexico Cannabis Cup. We were able to sponsor the 2023 Los Alamos Summer Concert Series – JJ and the Hooligans Aug. 4, 2023 and are again a 2024 Summer Concert Series sponsor. On April 20, 2023 we had our 1st Birthday, with prizes and giveaways and also a featured movie night at SALA, the Darkside of Oz (a mash-up of the Wizard of Oz and Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon). with free pizza, popcorn, and candy! In February 2024 we sponsored the “Bob Marley: One Love” movie at SALA and presented 2 free showings.

At the end of 2023 Wheeed! started our Employee Ownership Program. This program is still being developed, but will reward employees with ownership in Wheeed! LLC for their service.

Wheeed! Was granted a New Mexico State trademark for our name and Snail. Wheeed! Has additionally applied for Federal trademark for both the Snail logo and the Wheeed! Name. We are hoping this is granted soon, it’s a very lengthy process. Started February 2023.

There are strict packaging requirements for cannabis which leads to immense waste. We have invested substantially in compostable packaging and labels! All of the packaging that we control is 100% compostable. We also offer on-site recycling for cannabis packaging, including paper, plastic, and glass. Through a partnership with Bloom we are also able to offer cartridge (vape) recycling. We will also collect batteries to help ensure they are disposed of properly.

Since we have opened we have worked hard to reduce prices and offer more value wherever we could. We have lowered prices on many items by as much as 50% since we opened.

In 2023 Wheeed! completed $1,143,708.55 in total sales. We had $186,705.64 in discounts, $656,889.25 in recreational sales and $299,588.66 in medical sales.

Despite all of the positive numbers there are sizable expenses in our business. Most notably taxes…Tax Law 280E. This law puts a tremendous tax burden on cannabis businesses. Since cannabis is still federally illegal, this law disallows normal business tax deductions. Because of this law cannabis is one of the highest taxed industries in the country.

For 2023 Wheeed! paid approximately $307,000 Total Taxes including:
