USACE News:
ABIQUIU LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Albuquerque District (USACE) announced today that it has scheduled a water release from Abiquiu Reservoir to begin Nov. 30 and end Dec. 17, 2025.
The water will be delivered to Elephant Butte Reservoir by the end of December 2025.
Below is a tentative flow release in cubic feet per second (cfs):
- Nov. 30 – 500 cfs (start date)
- Dec. 1 – 800 cfs
- Dec. 2 – 1,000 cfs
- Dec. 3 – 1,200 cfs
- Dec. 4 to Dec. 8 – 1,400 cfs
- Dec. 9 – 1,200 cfs
- Dec. 10 – 1,000 cfs
- Dec. 11 – 800 cfs
- Dec. 12 to Dec.16 – 500 cfs
- Dec. 17 – 300 cfs
Spot checks along the Rio Chama during high flow releases will be done and the flow will be adjusted if necessary. Evacuation of the water is expected to be completed by Dec. 17, 2025, with a contingency date of Dec. 22, 2025.
This action is being coordinated with New Mexico Office of the State Engineer Interstate Stream Commission, United States Bureau of Reclamation, Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District, and Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority.
