Voting Opens for Business Recycler of the Year

COUNTY News:

Voting is now open to select the 2013 Los Alamos County Business Recycler of the Year. The three finalists selected by the Los Alamos County Environmental Sustainability Board are CB FOX, the Los Alamos Cooperative Market and Los Alamos Monitor. Visit the Los Alamos County Environmental Services page to vote. Voting will remain open until Friday, Nov. 22.

Each of the three finalists was sent a recycling questionnaire in order to gain more insight into the programs they have in place and the motivations behind those programs. CB FOX is focused on recycling the high volumes of cardboard that come in from their orders. The Los Alamos Cooperative Market has some great programs that promote waste reduction and reuse including their egg carton and milk jug take back/reuse programs. The Los Alamos Monitor focuses on recycling and reusing a variety of materials that are generated as a result of newspaper printing including empty ink barrels, aluminum printing plates and remnant end rolls of newsprint. The completed questionnaires are posted on the Environmental Services website for review prior to voting.

“All three of these businesses have impressive recycling programs that go a long way in helping reduce waste in the community,” said Tom Nagawiecki, Management Analyst for the Los Alamos County Environmental Services Division.

Head over to the Environmental Services website from Nov. 4 to Nov. 22 to learn more about the three finalists and vote. The public vote will be combined with a vote from the Environmental Sustainability Board and a separate vote from Environmental Services staff to determine the 2013 Los Alamos Business Recycler of the Year. The public vote will hold the most weight in determining the winner at 50 percent and the ESB vote and staff vote will each account for 25 percent. The winner will be announced at the Los Alamos County Chamber of Commerce Golden Anniversary Celebration Saturday, Nov. 30.
