The help of volunteers has saved the Los Alamos School District thousands of dollars on two projects at Sullivan Field. The track shed has been refurbished and a new concrete pad put in place for the storage of soccer goals.

“The Athletic Department bought the materials and volunteers did the work,” said Los Alamos High School Athletics and Activities Director Vicki Nelms, adding that Dojo Construction Company volunteered its equipment and parents, students and community volunteers pitched in their labor.

LAHS Art Department students will paint the high school’s logos on the bright yellow track shed sometime soon, Nelms said.

“It’s great to see the kids get involved,” she said.

Los Alamos Public Schools Superintendent Gene Schmidt told the Los Alamos Daily Post that the spirit of volunteerism is something that the school district welcomes.

We invite community members to share their expertise with us,” Schmidt said.
