This year’s Veterans Day community celebration is 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8874, 1793 Deacon St. All Veterans, their families and friends, as well as the general public are invited to attend. The local theme is “Courage, Sacrifice, and Duty – We Honor Those Who Serve(d).”
Veterans Day is a National Holiday to thank and honor the 23 million living Veterans who have honorably served their country in both wartime and peacetime. There are 1.4 million Americans serving in the U.S. military with thousands deployed overseas, many in harm’s way.
This year’s Guest of Honor and speaker is Col. Edmond Keith, USAF (ret). Colonel Keith served more than 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. He commanded the 320th Expeditionary Mission Support Group during Iraqi Freedom and is a current division leader for Maintenance and Site Services at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
We are also honored this year to have the Reverend Glenn Jones from the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church of Los Alamos, deliver the Invocation and Benediction. Reverend Jones served honorably as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps.
We would be honored to have the community join us for the ceremony. Lunch will be served at the conclusion, courtesy of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
