
VFW News:
New Mexico Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is holding a statewide food drive Sept. 9-11. VFW is accepting food donations at the Los Alamos VFW post at 1793 Deacon St., during this three-day event.
VFW post members also will be collecting food 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 in the VFW parking lot at 1793 Deacon St. Community members are encouraged to drop off food and/or donations at that time.
Each VFW post selects a local food bank or non-profit organization in which to donate everything collected. The Los Alamos VFW has chosen LA Cares.
LA Cares has provided the following list of desired items, but will accept all donated food:
- LA Cares Desired Donations
- 64 oz. Plastic Bottles Cranberry or Grape Juice
- Canned Beans or Tuna
- Canned Chicken
- Canned Corn or Green Beans
- Canned Diced Tomatoes C
- Canned Mandarin Oranges or Pineapple
- Canned Mexican Food
- Canned Pasta Sauce (No Glass, Please)
- Cereal – Raisin Bran, Bran Flakes, Cherrios, Shredded Wheat, Corn Flakes
- Chef Boyardee Pasta
- Chicken Noodle Soup
- Chunky or Hearty Soup
- Cooking Oil
- Crackers, Nuts and Snacks
- Ground Coffee
- Macaroni & Cheese
- Mayonnaise or Salad Dressing
- Mustard or Ketchup
- Oats or Oatmeal Oats
- 1 lb. to 5 lb. Bags of Flour
- 4 lb. Bags of White Sugar or 1-2 lb. Brown Sugar
- Bars of Soap – Deodorant – Shampoo – Toothpaste – Toothbrushes – Hand Lotion – Feminine Products
- Regular Grocery Size PAPER Bags

Rice – Peanut Butter – Canned Pumpkin Rice – Hotel Size Personal Care Items – Bottled Water.
