VCNP News:
JEMEZ SPRINGS —The Valles Caldera National Preserve will switch to its summer hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Sunday, July 7 and resume vehicle access into the backcountry area beyond the Valle Grande.
Backcountry vehicle access does require a permit, which is available at the entrance station on a first come, first serve basis. While access is capped at 35 vehicles per day, anyone can venture into the backcountry on foot or bike without a permit.
“We are excited to resume this popular activity and extended hours to our visitors,” Superintendent Jorge Silva-Bañuelos said. “We appreciate the public’s patience while we completed the repairs to the road and culvert.”
Current preserve conditions and updates are posted on the preserve’s website, www.nps.gov/vall, on Twitter @VallesCaldera, and on Facebook www.facebook.com/VallesCaldera/.
