Clark/ladailypost.com Kristy Ortega has tendered her resignation as executive director of United Way of Northern Mexico (UWNNM).
Ortega and UWNNM Board President Steve Boerigter addressed her resignation during an interview Wednesday at the Los Alamos Daily Post.
“I am fortunate to have been part of this essential mission of bringing together human and financial resources to improve the quality of life for others … and while I know this is the right personal decision, it is difficult leaving UWNNM and the work I have had the pleasure of doing with the board. Not only has it been gratifying and enjoyable, but I am forever changed knowing that there are so many incredible people who give their time, talent and treasure to help those in need.”
Ortega has led the local nonprofit organization for five and a half years and coordinated six annual giving campaigns.
“Now I’m going to take a little break and spend some time with my family … so stay tuned for the next chapter!” she said.
Boerigter has worked with Ortega for most of her tenure with UWNNM.
“Kristy has been absolutely fabulous, and an important part of the Northern New Mexico community and we are really going to miss her,” he said. “I personally am excited for her for the next chapter in her life. She is leaving our organization in good condition and the board will begin searching immediately for a new executive director who we trust will make a significant impact on the community as well … they certainly have some big shoes to fill.”
During its monthly meeting Tuesday evening, the UWNNM Board discussed a transition plan with Ortega. Anyone interested in applying for the position is invited to submit a cover letter and resume to unitedwayofnnm@gmail.com.
