My name is Emily Hopkins, one of the Los Alamos United Way Youth Team co-chairs for 2015. The Youth Team is about to kick of this year’s campaign with Dinner Over Diamond!

As chairs, Ally Edelman and I would be honored to have you and your families participate in United Way by donating to the cause. In case you did not know before, United Way is a nonprofit organization that contributes to the Community Action Fund and helps to support local organizations that benefit our community.

For example, the past two years, the Youth Team has funded the Los Alamos High School Link Crew, which is a peer-to-peer mentoring program that helps to create a sense of community and fellowship between the upper and lower classes.

Without your help, we will not be able to start programs like Link Crew in our schools or make other positive impacts in our town for youth. Support all of the good that United Way Youth Team does by enjoying the unique community dining events we offer this Fall!

This year we will be hosting four events:

  • Dinner Over Diamond Sept. 13;
  • Taste the Sky Sept. 27;
  • High Tea on the Hill Oct. 18; and
  • Hamburger Night Oct. 26.

We are extremely excited to present these events to you, and our producers will give you more information on their individual events. Thank you for all of your support in the Youth Team’s efforts to support Los Alamos!

I’m Sidra Hsieh Ratliff, the producer of the first United Way Youth Team charity event for this year, “Dinner Over Diamond”, which will be held Sunday, Sept. 13. It’s quite an honor for me to be able to organize this fund raising event. I’m thrilled to announce that we have BR Brand Catering as our caterer, and desserts by Ruby K’s and dessert donor Plaza Cafe Southside.

We invite everyone to wear red, white, and blue, stars and stripes to honor this year’s patriotic theme. The fire and police departments will be there supporting us, and will be showcasing their vehicles. The recent rains have made our mountains green and plush, the sunset from the overpass will be beautiful, and your dining experience will be unique.

“Dinner Over Diamond” will be a wonderful opportunity for the community to conclude Homecoming and the Class of 1980 Reunion weekend.

This event will be occurring between 4-7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 13, on the overpass right outside of Griffith Gymnasium. If the weather is uncooperative, we have a near-by backup location for dinner next to Diamond.  Admission for adults will be $20; $10 for students and children.

As Emily stated, proceeds from help fund youth programs in Los Alamos. We hope to see you there, and be sure to look out for all of the upcoming United Way Youth Team events this Fall! Thank you.
