LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools is pleased to announce that the construction of the new Piñon and Chamisa Elementary Schools in White Rock is moving along as planned and both schools passed state fire inspections this week.

Piñon Elementary School is open to staff now and will open for students at 8:10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 11, for the first day of school.

Chamisa Elementary School is currently open to staff, and teachers are working in classrooms.

On Aug. 4, Chamisa Elementary passed the state fire inspection, all systems inspections, and received certificates of occupancy for staff. Unfortunately, we will not be able to get the final inspection for student occupancy until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12. LAPS is confident that it is ready for that inspection, and the first day of school for Chamisa Elementary students will be 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13.

LAPS knows that this delay may be inconvenient for some families and apologizes for the short notice.

All LAPS schools, except Chamisa Elementary, will start on Monday, Aug. 11, as planned.

“We look forward to a great school year!” –Superintendent Jennifer Guy.
