Update On Drive For Food, Clothing, Cash Donations For Asylum Seekers

By RICHARD SKOLNIK
On Behalf of Cooperating Houses of Worship

As announced to the community earlier, The Unitarian Church, United Church, White Rock Presbyterian Church, Pajarito Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and Los Alamos Jewish Center are collaborating in a drive to raise food, clothing, toiletries, children’s art supplies and financial support for the work with asylum seekers of Colores United in Deming.

So far, community members have donated, among other things, about 60 boxes of clothing to the drive. The organizers of the drive are very grateful to the community for such a high level of support.

The community is welcome to continue contributing to the drive through Nov. 30. The  main collection boxes are at the Los Alamos Unitarian Church and collection boxes are also at the other cooperating houses of worship.

Colores United can also make good use of cash donations to support the administration of its program. Last year’s drive raised $7,000 in such donations. So far this year, however, financial donations have been limited. In this light, the organizers of the drive would like to remind the community that you can contribute directly on the website of Colores United at https://coloresunited.org/.

Those wishing to make such contributions may also give a check for Colores United to their own participating house of worship or to Peg Dahl, the Office Administrator at the Unitarian Church.
