UNM: Parent Education About ASD, Caregiver Empowerment

UNM News:

The Parent Education about Autism and Caregiver Empowerment (PEACE) training at the Center for Development and Disability is an educational training series for parents and caregivers of children with a recent diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

It provides evidence-based information to empower parents and caregivers to build foundational knowledge and develop a toolkit to support their child with autism.

The PEACE program includes four sessions: 1) an introduction to ASD, 2) a review of evidence-based interventions for ASD, 3) identification of supportive strategies to use with children with ASD, and 4) an overview of resources across the lifespan. The program will rotate through the four topics each month, beginning in February and continuing through June. The series will alternate between in-person and virtual formats to provide access to all families in New Mexico.
