UNM-LA SBDC Offers Business Skills Workshops

UNM-LA SBDC News:

The Los Alamos Branch of the Small Business Development Center is conducting three seminars in October to help small business owners and entrepreneurs improve their business skills.

Effective Techniques for Working with People
Oct. 22, 3-5 p.m., room 214, UNM-LA campus.

Topics to be covered will include:

  • How to work with those younger/older people that you don’t understand/don’t understand you.
  • What workers are really looking for in a job.
  • Three secrets to leadership that will make everyone’s life easier, whether or not they’re a leader.
  • More effective communication up, down, and sideways.
  • Why you can’t motivate people, but how you can help them be motivated.
  • What you need to know about yourself before you learn about others

Planning to Excel: Strategic Planning That Works
Oct. 22, 6-8 p.m., room 214, UNM-LA campus.

Topics to be covered will include:

  • Why a strategic plan is essential to success and why it’s the foundation for everything else.
  • How to create vision and mission statements that inspire.
  • How to choose goals that will energize everyone to reach for success.
  • The one step that ensures a strategic plan’s success, or will doom it to failure if overlooked.

Introduction to Bookkeeping for your Small Business
Oct. 23, 1–5 p.m., room 214, UNM-LA campus.

Topics to be covered will include:

  • Learn the key bookkeeping concepts and terminology.
  • Learn the 2 principal financial statements and how they are related.
  • Learn a simple single entry Bookkeeping method.
  • Learn Basic Bookkeeping rules and processes.

The workshops are open to the public with a $20 fee ($10 for SBDC clients). UNM-LA and Northern New Mexico College students get in free with a student ID.
