UNM-LA Bystander Intervention Workshop March 1

UNM-LA News:

UNM-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) will offer a free workshop, Bystander Intervention: Learn How to Safely Take Action, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, March 1.

Jess Clark, Education and Prevention Department manager at the Solace Crisis Treatment Center, will address bystander intervention and facilitate a series of role playing exercises.

The goal of Bystander Intervention workshops is to help participants develop bystander efficacy, or the confidence to get involved in a situation when someone needs help. Workshop participants will explore strategies for intervening in various circumstances, from bullying, to overhearing offensive jokes or inappropriate sexual comments, to witnessing harassment or violence.

The workshop is a collaboration between Solace Crisis Treatment Center and the UNM-LA Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) Campus Grant. The grant program has provided for sexual violence prevention education for faculty, staff, students, and community members through workshops and in-class education.

Dr. Kristy Dean Nadler, who manages the OVW grant, states,β€œIt is exciting to have this opportunity to provide education that truly makes a difference in the lives of our students and our community members, and we are so privileged to have Solace Crisis Treatment Center and Jess Clark as our partners in this endeavor. Jess has a wealth of knowledge and is a truly engaging speaker. We always look forward to his presentations at UNM-LA.”

UNM-LA students, faculty and staff, and community members are invited to attend the workshop in the Building 2 Lecture Hall, room 230. A light lunch will be provided.
