UOP News:University of the People, best known for making history as the first American-accredited, ultra-low-cost online university and educating more than 20,000 students around the world, applauds the state of New Mexico for its plan to provide four years of tuition-free education at public colleges and universities for all permanent state residents.
University of the People recognizes its crucial role during this transitional time in the state as we offer tuition-free education to all residents of New Mexico right now.
Programs are not only for permanent residents, but also temporary residents and undocumented students who will not qualify under the proposed New Mexico plan.
The rate of New Mexico high school students who earned a diploma last year was the highest it has ever been. However, only 27 percent of people 25 years of age or older in New Mexico have received at least a bachelor’s degree.
