Unitarian Church Presents ‘Northern New Mexico Regional Art Center’ By Maura Taylor

UCLA News:

Sunday 9:30 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Los Alamos, Maura Taylor will present a forum talk about the Northern New Mexico Regional Art Center, a small community nonprofit in Espanola.

In addition to running Espanola’s two museums and operating a gallery and visitor’s center, the organization offers free art and music classes to children. During her past three summers as a college student, Maura interned at the center, and will discuss both her own experiences and general information for those interested in learning about the NNMRAC and nonprofit work in Espanola more generally.

For many Los Alamos residents who do not often go to Espanola except to run errands at Lowe’s or Wal-Mart, not much is known about its real community or the people who live there. The NNMRAC is a bright spot in a city that has been experiencing economic downturn in recent years, and its story is closely tied to that of Espanola. Sunday’s talk will give attendees insight into the art center’s daily work and projects, and present options for involvement and support for those who want to help out with its mission.

The talk is about one hour, begins at 9:30 a.m., and includes time for questions and answers. For those interested, a soup and bread luncheon to benefit the center will be held at noon in the sanctuary.

This is part of the continuing Forum Series at the Unitarian Church, 1738 N Sage Loop. The public is invited to attend.
