U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich
U.S. SENATE News:
WASHINGTON, D.C. — As Americans deal with rising energy prices caused by a reliance on fossil fuels, U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) is calling for Congress and the Biden administration to act on legislative and executive initiatives that will lower energy costs for working families.
During an interview today on NBC Meet The Press Now with Chuck Todd, Heinrich expressed that “41% of the inflation that we’re seeing is directly tied to increasing prices in fossil fuel commodities like gasoline.”
During the interview, Heinrich welcomed today’s executive actions on climate and extreme heat from the Biden administration as a “good first step […] that can make a meaningful difference in decarbonizing our economy.”
When asked about the path forward in Congress to fight inflation and the climate crisis, Heinrich replied that we need a climate bill that “switches over to cleaner, cheaper sources of energy” that will “bring down the cost of energy for consumers.”
