U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich

U.S. SENATE News:

ALBUQUERQUE — U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich announced Monday his first wave of endorsements for local primary candidates running in New Mexico’s 2022 Midterm Election.

“We’ve had a lot of ‘unprecedented’ and ‘once-in-a-generation’ these last few years,” Heinrich said. “Much of it has been hard and tested our families, economy, democracy and more. But we’ve also made real, once-in-a-generation investments in our communities through the American Rescue Plan and Bipartisan Infrastructure Plan. That’s given us extraordinary local opportunities ahead, even while we continue to grapple with difficult challenges. And that’s why it’s so important that we have local elected leaders that can grab ahold of our opportunities while also taking on the challenges.”

Heinrich issued the following statements on each of the six endorsed candidates:

Kristina Ortez, New Mexico House District 42

“We need Kristina Ortez in the State Legislature to help our state take on climate change, invest in clean energy, and improve our infrastructure, from broadband to new roads. Kristina’s tenacity has already helped deliver on better pay for our teachers, judges, and law enforcement officers, and she’s just as committed to making sure your dollar goes farther when it comes to housing. I trust Kristina to always have your dreams and needs in mind and to fight for them every step of the way.”

Andrea Romero, New Mexico House District 46

“Andrea Romero has worked hard in the State Legislature to build rural infrastructure, take on climate change, support small businesses, and grow great jobs in Northern New Mexico. Andrea’s also committed to giving our kids the best shot at success – from fighting for early childhood education programs to delivering on free college. And she’s been relentless in taking on affordable housing challenges.”

Susan Herrera, New Mexico House District 41

“Susan Herrera has brought home major investments in rural economic development, early to higher education programs, and rural infrastructure. She’s created jobs and helped provide services to those struggling with a substance use disorder. From taking on the predatory loan industry to expanding technical trade education opportunities, Susan has proven we can count on her to stand up for her community in the State Legislature.”

Tara Jaramillo, New Mexico House District 38

“Tara Jaramillo has been my ‘go-to’ person in central and southern New Mexico for years. That’s because she has her finger on the pulse of the community. Her local business provides healthcare and therapy services to thousands of children, people with disabilities, and the elderly. When COVID hit, she worked quickly to coordinate supplies and services, saving lives for rural and tribal families. When we send her to the State Legislature, I know she will fight for the education, healthcare, and economic opportunities her community needs.”

John Allen, Bernalillo County Sheriff

“With a career in law enforcement and a real respect for his community, John Allen pulls no punches. He understands it’s time for ethical new leadership at the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office. John will be a reform-minded leader who knows that it takes to work collaboratively and across jurisdictions to fight crime and keep our community safe. I know John will be transparent and committed – focused on your safety in every decision he makes.”

Katherine Bruch, Sandoval County Commission District 1

“Katherine [Bruch] has worked tirelessly to support the managed economic growth of the County, while also protecting its groundwater.  She has brought much needed funding to many municipal projects and worked to ensure that the County’s first responders have the necessary equipment and training they need to protect the health and safety of all.”

These endorsements are in addition to the following, previously announced primary endorsements:

  • Gabe Vasquez, New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District; and
  • Raúl Torrez, New Mexico Attorney General.
